Granted, Lou ... but WHY? I know you are of my generation and well recall the many liberal Republican leaders like John Sherman Cooper and Everitt Dirksen and Sen Brooks. Even Jack Kemp and Richard Nixon (despite his rhetoric) were pretty progressive, and these are all in our lifetime. Great statesmen ... and now they have PURGED the party's officeholding ranks of everything but the right ... almost all neoconservatives. It is a really stunning uniformity.

It is no surprise, really, that they vote as a bloc ... nor any surprise that Democrats cannot, since they are now the party of "everyone else".

"If American democracy ceases to move forward as a living force, seeking day and night by peaceful means to better the lot of our citizens, fascism will grow in strength in our land." - Franklin D Roosevelt, Nov 4, 1938.
