LV, selling an idea to the electorate is the easy part.  The devil is in the details.  A majority of Americans wanted to end lifetime limits and pre-existing condition limitations.  They also didn't want "gov't " medical insurance.  In order to make sure that the first two could be eliminated and that private insurers would stay around it became necessary to be realistic and require everyone to pay for it.  I get that.

Healthcare reform could have been done better.  Reform could have been incremental (as it already has been) with more gov't coverage and private insurance still existing without going as far as they did.  However, Obama was stuck between his supporters and the majority of Americans and did his best to make everyone happy.  In the end, I think he failed to make anyone truly happy.
