How do you disagree with the guy, and then in your own comments, pretty much agree with what he says overall?
Maybe it's a half-full/half-empty comparison; I prefer to think of the successful liars and collaborators as DIShonorable exceptions to an ideal norm of independent journalism. We're certainly in a very dark time right now, but I don't believe the dishonesty he speaks of is the real tap-root of American journalism. Kids don't opt for a media career because they're happy with things as they are. The tradition of whistle-blowing, investigative reporting is an alluring, time-honored one, celebrated in our most beloved literature and in our movies and TV shows. Our news media have always been the conscience of our country, and I think they will be again. Everyone gets sick now and then.
