Bush is not, was not a conservative. No one in the current political arena is a conservative. The last true conservative was Goldwater, everyone since has been a poser and that includes Reagan.

Bush was just a miserable mistake for the country, alot of easily fooled people voted for him in 2000 and then again in 2004. They can justify it anyway they want, lesser of two evils, whatever, they aided and abetted an idiot in his take down of America and then have the unmittigated gaul to snivel and complain about Obama. They ought to use the energy to mop their consciences.
If you decide to to Indie, get ready for the onslaught of folks asking you why you are wasting your vote. They will tell you that unless you are unwilling to commit to a candidate that has a chance of winning it is the same as not voting at all (or more likely, voting for the other evil party).

As far as President Bush winning, for a very long time, the winner of the presidential election has been blessed with really bad opponents. In the elections I was able to vote in, here is a list of the winners:

Nixon
Carter
Reagan
Reagan
HW Bush
Clinton
Clinton
W Bush
W Bush
Obama

Not exactly a stellar field. But more importantly, look at the folks they beat:

McGovern
Ford
Carter
Mondale
Dukakis
HW Bush
Dole
Gore
Kerry
McCain

An even less stellar group if there ever was one.

The gruesome twosome have completely co-opted the election machinery to make sure they are the only ones who have a chance and our 'free press' is fully complicit in keeping the status quo. The last time any other party got an electoral college vote was 1972 when the Libertarians managed one (1).

We need to knock down the Republicans and Democrats somehow. My first suggestion would be that they can pay for their own damn primaries instead of the states. This is especially true since in most states they treat these primaries as private, party functions (no one but registered members can participate). For the first time in my life, I think a movement to get the parties to pay might actually gain some traction, what with most states straining to balance their budgets.

In any case, welcome out into the cold. 8^)
