I agree, Chris. I saw 2D For 6.00. Did you read/see any of the Lord Of The Rings saga? Read the books in 1970. IMHO they were superior to the flix mainly because the film makers would have needed 6 hours for each film to put in all the details and subplots which were in the books.
of course... both read and watched... I ALWAYS believe books to be superior to movies... I also think there are some things that should be left to the books because as you said, there is no way to get the story across in 2 hours or even 8 parts... for me, when I read, I become so engrossed in the book that I see and become everything in my mind... characters, scenery, emotion... hell, there have been times while reading something REALLY good that I have felt exactly like the character I'm reading... it's what I LOVE about books and why I have read thousands over the years... sometimes 2 or 3 novels a week back in the day... a really good book was done in a single sitting.....

Over the last 20 years or so, I got away from them because of time constraints but I went out and got a kindle (and one for Jenny) a few weeks ago... awesome....

Going back to HP... I loved the books and read about 1 a week... then I listened to them on audio, unabridged... the detail was ... detailed and all of it was very important to the story... while the movies didn't compare in richness and detail, they did do a great job in getting us invested in the characters but I have to believe... and Jenny proved it... it was very easy to get lost and just not understand the hows and whys of everything... She was asking about Malfoy and I explained a little of it to her.... also, there were large sections of the last book that were either glossed over or missing completely from the movie... Haggred and his role with the giants is a good example... The room of Requirement is another case in point... I understood what it was and what was there and why, but Jenny had questions about it...

Regardless, I am glad that we have to ways of enjoying one of the best stories that I have ever read... both HP and LOTR...

I'm totally engrossed in Jack Chalkers 'The Soul Rider' series right now... for the 3rd time and it's as fresh, interesting and as compelling as it was the 1st time I read those 5 books... going in the other direction, I have absolutely fallen in love with Brian Haig (yes, Alexander Haig's son) and his series of books.... I'm sure if you read one, you would see why I love them so much..lol
