I think having a national core cirriculum pertaining to math and science is fine and set the standards very high.  Adding courses for trades, such as basic electricity and woring, wood works or carpetry, plumbing, etc should also be taught. Home Economics is something that has run it's course because any form of actual economics is not taught, and anyone can watch the Food Network to learn how to cook something.  There's truth to just about anything people toss out there but what leaves me with my brow furroughed is solutions. OK Mr. Santorum, you think local communities should be in charge of education, how will you implement that? What cirriculum is going to be taught? Will kids learn science or that God created the world in 6 days? Will they learn human anatomy and physiology or will we not teach it for fear that the words penis and vagina could be mentioned?

HUM, back when I was in school there were classes for such things as carpentry and auto shop.   In Dallas, the old Dallas Highschool was transformed into a school for kids who played hooky.  Most chose to stay in the school because the cirriculum was so much more interesting.    I don't know when they decided to do away with the "trade school" but the last time it was open as a school it was called "Business Management Magnet" and my youngest son went there.  It was for better behaved kids who made good grades.
