The "Amercian" dream also played a role..what I mean is that the
dream' being sold was pushed by marketing and advertising...we just HAD to have this or that, had to live here not there. etc.
Malls and sprawl certainly helped in changing family dynamics..,but I look to marketing and a false sense of what it means to have 'arrived' as part of it.
