They don't have to be equally bad.  It's just that both are unacceptable.  I think it's a false belief that voting third party is a vote for either major party candidate.

I think which is worse depends on which party has control of Congress.  If the GOP keeps the House, which I think is likely, and perhaps picks up seats in the Senate, than Obama is better than Romney.  If the Democrats have Congress, I'd rather see Romney in the White House.
