We have large windows to the south and like all of our windows they have lined drapes. In the winter we close them at night, during the summer we close them during the day. We also have an entry porch that is attached to the house on the north side and is all glass to the east, south and west. On sunny days in the winter that porch (unheated) is over 80 degrees and heats our house. In the summer we have shades and open the windows to let the breeze blow through. We pull cool air out of our basement to cool the house in the summer. We do have a small window a/c that we use about one week a year.

As to the water park question, common sense answers that question.
