To some extent, that DOES deafen folks to what you are saying. A serious matter of theological principle under discussion by a group of Baptist ministers is dramatically different to the ears of each member of that debate than the exact same thing being said about Baptists by, say, a Jesuit priest. Women hear things said about women's issues differently when being said by a woman than by any man. And so on.

A member in good standing of North Carolina's Tarheel Nation will hear a criticism of the basketball program almost completely differently if said by a fellow NC fan than by a Duke fan. We all have that filter, and it is to a large extent valid. No one alive is so nonpartisan in his beliefs as to avoid this.
