Your marriage was a personal partnership, whether you knew it or not.  Marriage was a special one between a woman and a man.  Thirty years ago when I was advocating for all unions to be civil unions there was ZERO chance of gay marriage becoming legal.  Thirty years of suffering later, same sex marriage is now the law of the land through judicial fiat and the actions of states rights.  These two things, that many in here vehemently oppose unless it suits their partisan wants and needs.I saw civil unions as a step that moved the ball forward.  The people I was supporting saw it as an opportunity to prove they were no different in there relationships.  There are different ways to approach a problem. One involves sowing seeds and watching something grow and the other involves violence and suppression.  I choose the non violent route.

As to the right to marry whomever I choose, that is still a fallacy that now includes same sex partners, but there are plenty who are denied the right to marry the one they love.  We have come a long way, but there are always good and bad paths to follow.  We all have to make choices.
