I would never want to sublet ... but I would willingly take in friends if ever the worst happens ... and I really, really believe that it may very well come to that. If the world falls in, then money will mean virtually nothing anyway. WE will eat, and will have enough bounty of this good rich earth to feed others.

I have obtained a Canadian source for the jar rubbers for the old wire-clamp jars and am starting to acquire these jars in usable condition. With a supply of rubbers, then we can still preserve food in a kettle over an open fire if need be, without recourse to manufactured lids and bands. I am building shelving in that cool basement on the ground side to store the food, and game is abundant in that valley. I am a dead shot and skilled butcher, as well.

I really have thought this through. I am no wildeyed survivalist, but I have seen too much and am too aware of our nation's precarious credit position with China not to make plans. If a depression hits, I CAN get by ... and take a few along with me. You would be welcome, Mr H, and no rent due, of course.
