McLEAN, Va. — A toddler has died after a woman believed to be her grandmother threw her six stories off a shopping mall walkway in Virginia, police said on Tuesday.
The two-year-old fell from an outdoor walkway at Tysons Corner Center, in McLean, Virginia, on Monday at around 7 p.m., Fairfax County police spokeswoman Tawny Wright told msnbc.com.
Carmela Dela Rosa of Fairfax was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding after the incident, according to police.
The 2-year-old, Dela Rosa and other family members were leaving the mall when the 50-year-old allegedly picked the girl up and threw her off the walkway, Wright said.
The girl, Angelyn Ogdoc, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital in life-threatening condition where she later died, Wright said.
The charge will be reviewed and probably amended to murder now that the girl, has died, she said.
When asked about probable cause, Wright said: "We don’t discuss motives."
