The simple truth of the matter is that America's Liberals have almost always been right and the
Conservative Republicans have always been wrong which, if one thinks about it, is pretty amazing. It is amazing because, as the cliché goes, even a broken
watch is right twice a day. The reality, however, isn't that Republicans are that stupid - they simply choose to support ideas and causes that they know to
be fraudulent from the start.
The Iraq War is a perfect example of the Conservative Republican paradigm. From the time Europe's Christians invaded the Middle East during the foolhardy
and failed crusades, to England and France having been drummed out of the region in the Twentieth Century, it had been understood that the region wasn't
meant to be conquered. George W. Bush, the Neoconservative madmen supporting him and especially Dick Cheney -- see Cheney's 1994 'Iraq would be a
quagmire' comments -- knew the United States would never be able to pacify Iraq, but they didn't care. Their goal was never to conquer Iraq ... their
single objective was to secure the oil.
Still, they had to sell their scheme and, as Republicans always do, they sold the war by telling lies ... lies about WMD and lies about Iraq being connected to
the attacks of September 11, 2001.
It is the same thing regarding global warming. By this juncture the melting ice caps, devastating droughts in Australia and America's Southwest,
unprecedented flooding, and record-shattering heat waves make it evident even to the most ignorant of Republicans -- Republicans like George W. Bush -- that
global warming is real and it is in full swing. Still, Mister Bush and Republicans continue to pretend the obvious isn't real. Why do they continue to
behave in this absurdly delusional fashion? Because big oil isn't yet finished making obscene profits through the continued use of global warming causing
fossil fuels. And, until big oil's profits dry up, Republicans will simply continue to bail the water out of their Florida basements and insist that global
warming is a big hoax being perpetrated by the "Left-wing loons."
Back in the day Liberals insisted upon the government playing an active role in the oversight of corporate products. You know, to ensure our children's
toys weren't laced with lead that might kill them. Conservatives, however, claimed that the government was evil and that companies would be better able to
protect our children ... we should leave the health and well being of America's children to "market forces." Republicans knew that was a lie too.
They knew big business would ALWAYS do whatever helped their bottom line and if killing a few kids allowed them to make bigger profits, oops ... sorry!
An all time favorite Conservative Republican claim has been the lie that environmental regulations are unnecessary and that the only reason the "evil
Liberals" want to burden big business with it is because Liberals hate capitalism. Besides, the Republican mantra goes; environmental regulation is just
too costly and doesn't really work. Too, Republicans insist, we ought to leave environmental protection to "market forces."
Of course, the situation in China proves the Conservative Republican ideology to be false. The Liberals were wise to have insisted upon regulating industrial
pollution. If they hadn't and if the Republicans had won out, the United States would today be an environmental dead zone ... much like China is becoming.
What is important to realize and remember is that the only difference between China and the United States is that America's Liberal policies had placed a
check on industry's inherently greed-driven dark nature ... China didn't. China is the perfect case study in Conservative Republican economic ideology
- unfettered and unregulated industrialization. China's outcome isn't the exception to the Conservative Republican's ideology, it is the rule. The
pollution that today is killing the Chinese people, rendering the country's water undrinkable, and destroying the environment is what happens when industry
is allowed to operate unregulated.
Contrary to Conservative Republican ideology, greed is not a virtue. Greed is dangerous. In fact, greed is one of the original Seven Deadly Sins (aren't
'Conservative Republicans supposed to be worried about sin). Greed is the foundation of all corporate existence. Greed kills and, logic dictates,
institutions based upon greed, kill too. Nobody should be surprised to find corporate activities are polluting China's environment and killing the Chinese
people. Corporations don't exist to coddle the people or save the environment. Corporations exist only to make profits and will do whatever it takes to
make a blood-red cent ... polluting the air, polluting the water and killing people are simply the cost of doing business.
Don't take a "Loony Left-Wing Liberal" at his or her word:
"Public health is reeling. Pollution has made cancer China's leading cause of death, the Ministry of Health says. Ambient air pollution alone is
blamed for hundreds of thousands of deaths each year. Nearly 500 million people lack access to safe drinking water."
Of course, the American people won't pay attention to the Liberals ... after all, America's Liberals have almost always been right and the Conservative
Republicans have always been wrong. According to Conservative Republican logic, one always listens to the person who is always wrong ... which explains a lot
about the United States today.
